Aspirational reference group

Aspirational reference group

Aspirational reference group is a sub-category of a reference group, consisting of individuals (not necessarily known personally) with whom a person desires to be associated, but to which she does not belong. Thus person tries to copy the attitudes and behavior of the members of the group.

reference group is a concept referring to a group to which an individual or another group is compared. Sociologists call any group that individuals use as a standard for evaluating themselves and their own behavior a reference group.
